Ever since the first caveman ate the first mushroom, man has been finding ways to intoxicate himself and seperate himself from reality. Is sanity such a horrible thing that it must be runaway from? Why can humans not seem to stay sober, is the world that bad?
Of course, most embrace sanity, and the world is not that bad a place, yet there is a vocal minority which must have their drugs, and they are the ones we should take interest in. For the most part, these people are intellegent and young, too emotionally insecure to deal with the daily nightmare of their own lives. Instead of coping with this situation, most Prom Kings and Queens would prefer simply getting twisted on LSD and Cocaine while driving dad's new SUV off the bridge into the lake. This is not normal behavior.
How can we explain the way in which the best and brightest of our youth would rather spend their time passed out in some dirty basement than engaging in any sort of independent study, without first indicting ourselves? That is the kicker, the fact that society is going to have to take some of the blame for this, or nothing is ever going to get solved. This, of course, is not going to happen.
An entire high school graduating class, burnt out on acid, tied up to the floor of some sterile Mad House. What a wonderful world this could be.
